What To Expect
Building the Mind : Body Performer
In this workshop we explore the depths of our internal landscape, discovering the intricate connection between mind and body.
What to expect
Based in psycho-phsyical approaches to training fuelled by the legacy of Grotowski, we embark on a journey of self-exploration and deepening self-awareness. By reconnecting with our bodies and honing our awareness, we uncover layers of feeling and sensation that enrich our understanding of ourselves and our performance.
Through this exploritative process, we move towards a more authentic and complete transformation, experiencing our creative process not just through thought, but through embodied sensation.
How:
Through a fusion of rigorous physical training, sensory attunement, and theoretical insight, we will:
Tune into the body’s internal landscape through movement, breath, and heightened awareness, allowing us to move from a place of authenticity rather than habit.
Engage with the nervous system’s role in movement to cultivate deeper responsiveness, adaptability, and a richer connection to the present moment.
Develop physical and sensory listening—learning how to move in dialogue with our environment, other performers, and an audience with presence and integrity.
Explore physicality through contact work—partnered exercises that develop trust, balance, and a connection that goes beyond the physical. - Apply methods of internalisation to enhance stage presence, authenticity, and depth in performance.
Use somatic and meditative practices (influenced by Qigong, Vinyasa yoga, and Daoist philosophy) to deepen our connection to movement as something felt, not forced.
What Does the Workshop Look Like?
This is a highly physical experience, but one that works with your individual capacity, not against it.
The Sessions Unfold Through:
Group movement explorations
Immersive exercises where we move together, pushing past limitations and discovering new layers of physical expression.
Partner work—physical contact-based exercises that explore balance, weight-sharing, and deepening connection to another body in space.
Solo explorations—time to investigate internal responses, allowing movement to arise naturally rather than be imposed.
Observation & reflection—watching each other’s processes to understand movement from the outside and within.
Integrated theory & discussion—not just learning by doing, but breaking down concepts together, weaving in psychophysical, somatic, and performance philosophies.
Application to performance—exploring how these discoveries translate into presence, character, and physical storytelling on stage.
This workshop is an opportunity to challenge your body, mind, and creative instincts in a safe but bold space, where we step away from rigid structures and into the unknown. Join us as we embark on a journey to discover and embody our psychophysical selves.
